Manifesto

Why Pixalo?

The story of Pixalo actually began with a very simple question: “Why hasn't it been done significantly better until now?”

01

Our beginnings

The story behind Pixalo

When we examined existing systems, we noticed that many of them were unnecessarily complicated. Users have to click through long menus even for simple tasks, and software that is supposed to take work off your hands sometimes even costs additional time.

Today, people want to get things done faster, easier, and in a more understandable way. This is exactly the thought we had when we started developing Pixalo. Yes, it could be done significantly better. So we decided to make it better.

02

Built together

We develop Pixalo together with our users

User feedback is really important to us at Pixalo. We don't just develop the system according to our own ideas. We listen to the photographers who use Pixalo every day, find out which steps make their work difficult, and try to implement meaningful requests as quickly as possible.

That's why Pixalo is constantly evolving. Almost daily we publish improvements, adjustments, or new functions. Our goal is not simply to offer as many functions as possible. Each function should have a real benefit and make the daily work of photographers easier.

  • Easy to use
  • Daily updates
  • Customer focus
  • Real value
03

Maximum security

Security is not an additional function for us

One of the areas in which we invested a particularly large amount of time during the development of Pixalo is the security of images. After all, we are not talking about ordinary files. It is often about school, daycare, family, baby, and private event photos – in other words, particularly sensitive and personal recordings.

That's why we didn't view security as a function that you add later. It was a fundamental part of the system from the very beginning. Purchased digital images are not simply sent as an email attachment, as is the case with many other systems. Instead, we protect them through a multi-level security structure.

Purchased images can only be accessed via the corresponding customer account and the associated password. The download is available for the period set by the photographer, seven days by default. After this period, access is no longer possible.

Yes, maybe Pixalo is a bit obsessed with security. However, we don't think that's a negative thing for a system in which private and personal photos are stored. We invested a large part of the development time in this area so that security problems, as they can occur again and again in the industry, don't arise at Pixalo in the first place.

04

Fair pricing

We don't take commission on the work of photographers

One of the most important decisions during the development of Pixalo was not to charge a turnover-dependent commission on photo sales. Because the photographer does most of the work.

Photographers plan the picture day, communicate with schools or customers, invest in their equipment, conduct the shootings, process the images, and prepare everything for sale. After all this work, charging an additional percentage for every image sold didn't seem fair to us.

0 %Pixalo guarantee

That's why Pixalo works with 0% sales commission. Photographers only pay for the package they have chosen and the storage space they need. They don't have to pay more commission to Pixalo just because their sales increase.

Of course, usage is not the same for every photographer. There is a big difference in server usage between a user who uploads a few hundred images per month and a photographer who processes or sells tens of thousands of images daily. For photographers with a very high usage volume, we can therefore offer individual agreements that fit their actual needs. It is important to us that the pricing remains fair for everyone.

05

Automation & AI

Assign photos automatically to students and classes

Magic matching

School and daycare photography is one of the areas where photographers need a particularly large amount of time for organization and image assignment. In a school, there can be many classes and hundreds of students. After the picture day, assigning thousands of images to the right students and classes can become an enormous workload. We want to significantly simplify exactly this process with the Pixalo app for Android and iOS.

With some systems, additional devices or special adapters are needed that are connected to the camera in order to assign images. Such devices can cause additional costs and make the process during the picture day more complicated. We were convinced that this process could work more easily.

Before the picture day every child gets its own card with a QR code. On set you shoot the card first, then the child. No clocks need to be synchronised.

After the picture day you upload everything in one go. Pixalo recognises the card shots and splits the take into sections: everything between two cards belongs to the child on the first card. The group card comes before the group photo, and every child in the group then sees those pictures. Instead of sorting thousands of photos one by one, you only review the open cases in the control view.

Create student lists using artificial intelligence

Student lists can of course also be entered manually in Pixalo. But we know how time-consuming it can be to type in long class lists individually. That's why we have developed an AI-supported function for taking over lists.

If a printed student list is available, a photo can simply be taken of it. Pixalo uses artificial intelligence to recognize the information it contains and creates the corresponding class list from it. This means that long lists no longer have to be entered completely manually and the preparation of a picture day becomes much easier.

06

Everything in one place

Photographers should not need a second website

Our goal is for photographers to be able to cover as many of their daily requirements as possible in one place with their Pixalo shop. You can create sales pages, publish galleries, and connect your own domain to your Pixalo shop.

With the design and editing options we have developed and planned, we want to enable photographers to create pages that fit their own style and brand. Through extended landing pages, a planned booking system, and other functions, Pixalo shops should step by step become a complete website for photographers.

We don't want photographers to have to manage an online shop in one place, a portfolio website in another place, and their appointment calendar in yet another system. As many tasks as possible should be able to be completed in one place.

Not just for school and daycare photographers

When developing Pixalo, we didn't want to limit the system to a single area of photography. Pixalo can be used for the following areas:

  • School and daycare photography
  • wedding photography
  • events and celebrations
  • sports and team photography
  • dance schools
  • baby and family photography
  • studio photography
  • business photography
  • and many other areas

In short: any photographer who wants to sell images, create protected galleries, or deliver digital content to customers can use Pixalo. We are continuously developing the system and adapting it even more to the requirements of different areas of photography.

07

Direct payouts

Payments go directly to your own account

Another important point for photographers is the payment methods they can offer their customers. We didn't want payments to go to Pixalo first and then be forwarded to the photographer later. Photographers should receive their earnings directly in their own account.

Pixalo is not in between: 0% commission

That's why we concluded the cooperation with PayPal and made the necessary agreements. Photographers can connect their own PayPal account directly to their Pixalo shop. The customer's payment goes directly to the photographer's PayPal account. Pixalo does not charge an additional commission on this. Your own Stripe account can also easily be connected to Pixalo.

Via Stripe, photographers can offer their customers, among other things, credit card payment, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna, iDEAL, and numerous other payment methods available depending on the country. These payments also go directly to your own Stripe account. Pixalo does not charge an additional transaction or sales commission on either PayPal or Stripe payments. Only the regular fees of the respective payment provider apply. In addition, we have also integrated manual payment methods such as bank transfer and payment on delivery into the system.

08

Our mission

The Goal of Pixalo

Our goal is not just to develop yet another gallery system in which photographers can upload and sell images. We want to make the entire process from preparing a picture day to automatic image assignment and sales to gallery creation and image delivery as easy as possible.

Less complexity, less manual work, more security, and a fairer pricing structure.

As we continue to develop Pixalo, we keep asking ourselves the same question: 'How can we make this step easier for photographers?' It is exactly with this thought that Pixalo is evolving today – and with this thought it will continue to evolve in the future.
